Located in Pocatello, Idaho, this $11.5 million project for Idaho State University is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose event facility.

IDAHO FALLS, ID

This new 4,400 square foot facility was designed to tie-in with the adjacent buildings in Tautphaus Park while using materials that connect it to its natural environment.  Elements including dark cultured stone and wood timbers are reminiscent of the volcanic basalt rock, forested mountains, and historic log cabins of the region.   The interior colors and finishes were selected using natural finishes with clear sealed concrete, solid live edge wood, clear sealed wood planks, and natural toned colors.  The goal of the design was to bring outside the natural beauty of the outdoor inside.  

Flexibility was also a key component of the design, allowing for use by various group sizes and ages.  The building is comprised of 3 meeting/classrooms designed to occupy 25 – 30 students but also allows for all three spaces to open up into one large event space designed to occupy 150 people.  Each of the three classrooms are separated by folding operable panel partition walls that allow separation both visually and acoustically from room to room.  Also, two spaces can be combined into one allowing for a wide range of classroom sizes.  The classroom spaces are all equipped with counter spaces with sinks and faucets allowing a variety of learning opportunities.  The flooring surfaces throughout the classrooms are a blended rubber/carpet material that resists staining and spills and can be easily cleaned.  The carpet material also softens the space while providing quiet acoustical properties. 

In order to keep ongoing use and maintenance costs down the building was designed with many energy efficient features, including LED lighting controlled by daylight sensors, occupancy sensors, and building management controls.  This allows the users to use electricity for lighting only when it is absolutely necessary.  The heating and cooling systems are a simple forced air furnaces using natural gas for heating allowing high efficiency ratings and simple maintenance. 

This facility received the Idaho Recreation and Park Association’s Outstanding Facility Award in 2019.

POCATELLO, ID

This new facility was designed and constructed at Intermountain Gas Company’s Pocatello offices and operations yard.  IGC had out grown their existing warehouse space in Pocatello and were in need of a larger space to house their maintenance vehicles and parts inventory. 

The new 14,000 square foot facility consists of 3 full drive through bays large enough to house their work trucks equipped with a trailer and backhoe.  Inventory space for IGC’s gas meter and piping parts was also designed with-in the space.  Adjacent to the warehouse space is a full metal and pipe fabrication bay consisting of 24’-0” high ceilings, clerestory windows, welding exhaust systems, overhead doors, and an overhead crane.  The facility also houses a small office area for IGC’s operations along with restrooms, janitorial, and mechanical mezzanine. 

This new facility sets on IGC’s current 2.5 acre site which was also completely upgraded with storm water retention, asphalt parking, perimeter fencing w/ gate operators, site security systems, and landscape plantings.  The existing buildings on the facility were also upgraded with exterior finishes to match the new facility.

SODA SPRINGS, ID

Caribou Memorial Hospital was seeing significant growth in their patient volumes and services provided, but was trying to expand staff and services while still in their original 1967 building which was holding them back in terms of workflow, available space, and appearance.

Myers Anderson looked closely at the facility and site and met individually with staff in every department to assess needs and provide a vision for a complete master plan for the hospital. The plan nearly doubles the area of the existing building, but more importantly reorders circulation and creates key adjacencies between the hospital floor, the emergency room, ancillary services and outpatient services. In addition, the master plan reorients the hospital entrance to face the street across a new main parking lot and transforms the exterior with a clean, rustic look that still incorporates the red brick of the original building.

The first phase of the work, recently completed, expanded the OR and relocated physical therapy and the maternity suite, which clears the way for the next major phase of additions.

Masterplan work included conceptual design for renovations to an existing Living Center/Long Term Care floor to improve and relocate activity areas, support areas, and Nurses Station, all within a challenging existing building configuration. Phase 1 work included reconstruction of two large resident rooms and a family room/lounge.

Project Cost: $3.4 million

EVANSTON, WY

In May 2007 the Strand Theater was victim of a fire that destroyed much of the 90 year old structure.  After the fire, the building was donated by private owners to the Evanston Urban Renewal Agency.

The stabilization project on the Strand was completed in 2008.  Since then, there have been three subsequent phases of work on the project.

Facade improvements included Restoring the historic metal parapet cap, installing new storefront windows and doors and new widows on the upper facade.  This phase of work was completed in February of 2011.

With this new direction and a clear goal for the completed project, the next two phases of work began; first, schematic design for a completed theater and second, a new awning and signage to promote the cultural center.  The schematic renderings, floor plans and elevations have been completed and approved.  The signage and awning project was completed in early 2012.  The remainder of the work has just been completed with the opening show scheduled for April 2015. 

As the facade and roof restoration were completed the community began to question the plan to renovate the Strand Theater as a single story office or retail space.  At that time the community and the Evanston Urban Renewal Agency (EURA) came together and formed the Friends of the Strand Theater Committee.  With the support of the community the decision was made to renovate the Strand as a performing arts center, now officially called the Evanston Cultural Center.

EVANSTON, WY

Part of the Historic Evanston Railyards Complex, the 28 bay, 63,000 square foot functioning Roundhouse is one of only a few remaining in the country.

In this first phase of work, Section One was transformed into a meeting and events space to support and expand the capabilities of the Machine Shop to provide a fuller compliment of facilities relative to meetings, conferences, and large events.  The space includes an upper mezzanine area accessible via elevator or stairs.

In the next phase of work Sections Two, Three and Four will be restored and renovated as a civic center, housing city offices, the police department, planning, engineering, etc.  Masterplanning is currently in progress.

AMERICAN FALLS, IDAHO

Power County Hospital is located on a long, narrow city lot with an elevation chage of more than 40’, and in addition to needing more parking, they needed to expand in three directions. Already working with another architect, the hospital CEO came to us after attending the grand opening of a renovation and addition we had designed for another hospital.

Myers Anderson provided an assessment of the building and went through a master planning process with hospital staff to accommodate their needs on the existing site while still increasing parking and greatly improving internal circulation and patient management.
Plans and rendered graphics were provided to illustrate the project to the community, which passed a $15 million bond in May of 2017. The project is currently under construction, with some portions of work already in use by the hospital, including the renovated X-ray room, three new patient rooms, rebuilt parking lot, and the new helipad and parking garage.

PRESTON, ID

Franklin County Medical Center was in need of significant upgrades to their existing facilities. Their level of service was hampered by the facilities they have to work with. Working with FCMC, Myers Anderson tackled a master planning process that led the hospital and skilled nursing facility to a sound point of consensus on what the future goals were for the operations and services to be delivered and what was needed in facilities to support their health services goals.

The facility is an acute care and skilled nursing care facility. There had been minor remodels but overall the facility was in need of significant upgrades to many departments, including the skilled nursing facility. Myers Anderson worked with FCMC to develop a comprehensive masterplan that outlined the appropriate phasing of work to upgrade the facility to meet the client’s long term goals.

This first phase investment, just under $1.5 million dollars was a great first step in the overall project (approximately $6 million dollars). The next phase of work in FCMC’s future is the addition of a new Emergency Care/Surgical Center to the facility.

LYMAN, WY

This project included the development of a community center in the historic barn located in the Lyman Heritage Area.  The barn is located in the immediate proximity of various other buildings, which comprised the previously known Lyman Experimental Farm.

The site was placed in public use in 1915 and expanded in 1930.  Development of the site will remain sensitive to the rural and historic integrity of the overall site.

Site improvements will include one additional access point to a public parking area for visitors and patrons of the barn.  Walkways and patio gathering places will be developed to facilitate pedestrian access grouping.

This project will restore life and vitality to the Heritage Area and historic buildings remaining.  The Community Center will provide much needed facilities for a variety of social and civic activities.  The site is of historic significance and the buildings are of sound condition.  Improvements of these facilities will provide a great cultural and educational asset in the Town of Lyman.

POCATELLO, IDAHO

Connections Credit Union (formerly Potelco) enlisted the services of Myers Anderson Architects to provide complete architectural, landscape architectural and interior design services for their new Olympus branch office at a highly visible intersection of collector and arterial streets.

The 4,000 square foot new building houses a full service branch office including customer service areas, teller line, vault with safety deposit boxes, offices and drive up teller along with a conference room and employee area. The design reflects the owner’s desire to present financial solvency and long term commitment to the community by use of brick and stone. Features of the design include natural day lighting of all areas, views of the Portneuf Valley, easy accessibility and a prominent location, natural vegetation for landscaping and the use of sustainable energy efficient materials.

Criteria for the landscape design included environmental sustainability, appropriateness for the setting, and creating an image of responsibility. Myers Anderson comprehensive design services allowed the landscape design to be a fundamental and fully integrated component of the overall design. The landscape and site design included provisions for storm water retention and infiltration, and micro-climate modification. A combination of traditional turf and shade trees integrated with areas of native/adapted plants were arranged to compliment the hardscape elements and building architecture. More than 70 percent of the landscaping is irrigated with highly efficient subsurface drip system, while turf areas are watered with the latest technology for above-ground application.

Juniper Hills Country Club is a privately owned country club offering numerous amenities including golf, swimming, and tennis.

The project presented the additional challenge of being located in the Gibson Jack Creek flood plain.  Myers Anderson, in working with City of Pocatello Building and Engineering Departments, were able to work through the issues to allow the project to move forward.

Myers Anderson has been working with the club for the last ten years on various projects.  The most recent project has been developing a ten year masterplan for renovating the various Club owned facilities. The masterplan mapped out a phased approach to remodeling the existing clubhouse and swimming/tennis building.

The First Phase of the masterplan was recently completed in 2013.  This phase included the demolition and replacement of the existing golf pro shop/cart storage building with an addition to the clubhouse.  The improvements also included enlarging the dining room and patio along with remodeling both men's and women's locker rooms, the administration office, and providing a new bag drop off area and club house entrance.

ALPINE, WY

This 1.4 million dollar project for the Town of Alpine included the expansion and renovation of the town’s existing civic center, police station, and leasable office space. The project included site improvements and added parking as well. A complete renovation of the existing assembly hall, new dividable conference rooms, meeting spaces, storage, restrooms, and main entry resulted in a new 6,250 SF community center for the town.

Office space in the north end of the building received a complete remodel to enlarge total leasable space, create a true lobby/entry space, ADA compliant restroom, and access to the new conference rooms. The garage space at the south end of the building was renovated into a new 1,800 SF police station with two offices, an interview room, restroom, and improved garage space for evidence storage.

Site improvements included significant redesign of an adjacent town park and existing parking lot to accommodate 70 new parking spaces. Paved outdoor meeting space, improved landscaping, and exterior access to the new restroom.

RUPERT, ID

The transformation and restoration of this once thriving historic theater of the 1920’s to a community performing arts center of 2000 has been a process through years of hard work and numerous phases.  

Myers Anderson, along with the Renaissance Committee of Rupert, continues to work together to save this community gem.  The Wilson Theater is a cornerstone of the old town square.  The scope of work has been completed in various phases as funds, grants, and donations have deemed possible.

The repointing and sealing of the masonry, replacement of upper level windows, the replacement of significant decorative elements that frame the facade, as well as selective demolition of the interior, structural upgrade and replacement of storefronts and transoms, and an interior renovation of the restrooms and elevator have all been completed to date.

The conference and upgraded lobby facilities are just coming to completion and will be finished in the next few months.  This final and most important part of the building, the Auditorium, is just now beginning and will be restored to its original conservative but beautiful appearance with completely new sound, lighting, seats and finishes.

The community’s involvement and efforts have truly made this project move forward as they have invested in their future as well as their past.

EVANSTON, WY

The 17,000 square foot Machine Shop, one of the key buildings at the Historic Evanston Railyards in Evanston, Wyoming, is the focus of the City restoration and revitalization of the Railyards.  

The Machine Shop serves as a large, open, multi-use events center for the community and is a key component to the Railyards.  The work on the Machine Shop included restoration of the exterior and interior masonry, removal of all asbestos and lead paint, repair and re-glazing of all the steel sash windows, new accessible entrances, restrooms, and an addition of the kitchen and patio area.

Acquired by the City from the Union Pacific Railroad, the Railyards are envisioned as a cultural, civic and commercial asset to the City of Evanston.

All new power, thermal radiant concrete slab, sound and lighting were a part of the project.  This facility has been in use every weekend since its completion for events ranging from formal balls, weddings, funerals, conferences and railroad model builder rallies.

The Machine Shop serves again as a vital entity in the community. 

EVANSTON, WY

This Evanston medical office is the new home for High Country Behavioral Health (HCBH) Out-Patient Services. The HCBH Out-Patient facility accommodates a wide variety of clinical and medical services. The facility includes clinical offices, medical exam rooms, administrative offices, group treatment areas, recreation rooms and a life skills education space. The facility also houses a short term detention and stabilization center operated by the Evanston City Police, Uinta County Sherriff and Lincoln County Sherriff.

After working with Myers Anderson to develop a masterplan that consolidated their services onto a a single campus, HCBH was able to utilize the masterplanning information to engage in a public/private partnership with the City of Evanston to pursue a community readiness grant. With the grant awarded, Myers Anderson was contracted by the City of Evanston in December of 2012 to provide design services for the new medical office building.

The building is 9,000 sf, single story with a steel post and beam structure. The construction of the facility was slab on grade with structural steel curtain walls and masonry veneer. The building was designed with energy conservation in mind and with state of the art mechanical and electrical systems, to keep annual utility costs at a minimum.

The building is on a 1.5 acre site, which is in an area of Evanston that the city plans to promote for future commercial development. The project is a corner stone to the area and set the standard for future design and construction.

MOUNTAIN HOME, ID
Idaho National Guard Readiness Center

This project involved the renovation of a 1940's pole barn style National Guard Armory. This building was recently remodeled with construction completed in July of 2017. The newly remodeled facility provides an enhanced image for the armory creating a new presence on the Edgmeade site.

The work involved:
• Site work to comply with anti-terrorist guides for public stand off.
• Energy conservation measures
• New exterior facade
• New metal roofing
• Interior remodel with new finishes, offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms, showers, and latrines
• New mechanical, electrical, and data/com systems
• Refinished concrete floors in the Drill Hall
• New grand entry, glazing, and window systems

Like our other Readiness Center renovations, this project also included a grand entrance off the drill hall and recruiter's office. In order to add additional training spaces within the facility, a second level mezzanine classroom area was constructed within the existing drill hall area. The shower, latrines, and locker rooms were also substantially reconfigured allowing more capacity and better function. The overall work on the Edgemeade site included a new parking lot to the north of the building and new LED site lighting. The entire perimeter of the building was accented with new drought resistant native landscaping and plantings.

POCATELLO, ID

This project involved the master planning for a new aquatic center and substantial expansion of the Student Recreation Center at Idaho State University.  Working closely with the ISU staff and the Steering Committee, a master plan was created which included a new 50-meter pool with recreation pool amenities and a 33,000 square foot expansion to the existing Rec facilities.  

The new and expanded areas are Administration, cardio/fitness areas, weights areas, training areas, jogging track, and multi purpose areas.

A particular challenge of this project was the assessment and integration of the existing building into a successful functional layout.  Once this was accomplished, we attacked the next challenge.  This was to define the appropriate first phase of the project.  

With a $22.2 million dollar master plan and a $6 million dollar budget, it was determined that the Student Recreation Center would be the first phase with the pool to be completed as funding becomes available.

Thorough planning in the beginning will help ensure that over time, additional phases of the building will be developed most efficiently and economically to serve the students well for many years to come.

Myers Anderson has had the privilege of providing architectural and planning services on numerous projects at both the Olympic Swimming Complex and the World Famous Hot Pools.

These projects have been ultimately successful through hard work, creativity and perseverance.  These projects all presented serious challenges with issues related to soils, tight sites, contractors, and tight budgets.

Through these challenges Lava Hot Springs continues to develop as a “World Famous Facility”, holding to its reputation.

In 1996 Myers Anderson worked with Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in creating a master plan that would guide the hospital in an effort to upgrade the existing hospital and skilled nursing facilities.  The first phase was complete renovation of all facilities except the SNF, administration areas and patient rooms.  Areas remodeled included Operatories, Labs, Physical Therapy, Kitchen, ICU and ICCU, etc.

In 2011 Myers Anderson conducted an update to the 15 year old master plan.  The previous master plan served the hospital well.  Phases One/Two of this updated master plan were completed in 2012 and consisted of upgrades to Physical Therapy, the entrance lobby and administrative areas.

The third phase the master plan is just completed and involved the replacement of seventeen patient bedrooms; creating two ICU/CCU rooms, two labor, delivery, recovery, post partum rooms along with a new nursery, new delivery room for C-sections, new procedure room and an expanded nurse station.  

This project represents nearly $10,000,000 in reinvestment in this rural hospital.  In working with the hospital administration and staff the new facilities will provide excellent services to the community for many years to come and serves as an example of a thriving rural health care facility to other surrounding rural communities.

POCATELLO, ID

The City of Pocatello’s existing animal shelter facility is deteriorating, undersized, and unable to meet Pocatello’s needs in a healthy and effective manner.  In response to this problem, Myers Anderson Architects designed a new 16,000 sq. ft. facility that will meet local needs in a beautiful, comfortable environment for the next 20-30 years.

The design includes administrative space, animal holding areas, exercise yards, a community education center, numerous support functions, and an attractive, centrally located adoption center.  The facility is designed to increase animal health and adoptions and decrease disease, stress, and euthanasia rates.  

Animal holding areas use many techniques to ensure a healthy, sanitary environment, including individual kennel drains, quarantine and isolation areas, and individual ventilation of cat cages, and indoor/outdoor dog kennels for easy cleaning.

The adoption center is placed front and center and provides a pleasant, inviting environment where the public can view and interact with animals ready for adoption.  It includes glass-front adoption kennels and cages, bonding rooms, creative play areas, retail space, and reception & adoption services.

IDAHO FALLS, ID

This project involved the renovation of a 1960’s style National Guard Armory to meet current anti-terrorist and military standards. Bids for this project came in significantly below the project estimate which afforded the State/Military the ability to make substantial upgrades including the addition of an overbuilt roof for the assembly hall and a complete Exterior Insulated Finish System (EIFS).

POCATELLO, ID

Myers Anderson has extensive experience in successful renovation of difficult existing buildings. These include the Whitman Hotel, depicted here, as well as numerous rural hospitals, commercial, and institutional buildings. The Whitman Hotel is a highly successful mixed use development that transformed a condemned and pigeon infested 42,000 sq ft building into a fully occupied building with 26 housing units and 8,400 sq ft of professional office space. The project was a two year process at a cost of $4.2 million.

The work involved the complete renovation of the interior walls, finishes, and systems, as well as, the necessary seismic renovation to bring the building into compliance with current codes. The exterior was restored with a new roof, windows, masonry repair/stabilization, and cleaning & sealing.

This project involved extensive investigation and review of the structure, conditions, and assets to develop the most fiscally practical and responsible re-purposing of the building.

Myers Anderson collaborated extensively with the buildings’ stakeholders to bring back this vital social & economic contribution to the community. This was a challenging project, and Myers Anderson was up to the task.

BLACKFOOT, ID

This project included design and construction of 80,000 square feet of high tech fabrication space and 30,000 square feet for corporate offices. Capitalizing on the technological and industrial directive of the company for inspiration, we introduced materials in the corporate office areas reflective of their expertise: stainless steel, glass and tile. These materials directly relate to the work Premier does in their facility.

Expandability and flexibility were critical points related to future success. The large steel frame accommodates extreme flexibility within and outside the facility. The large windows in the facility accommodate the natural light in all areas of the building, including the shop/fabrication areas. Light, sound isolation, flexibility and maintainability were important factors addressed in the design of the Premier facilities.

The facility has been extremely well received as a progressive space providing a visual impact representative of the company and a place of high function, comfort and pride for those who work in the building. As one of the first buildings in this industrial development, it has set the standard for quality design in providing an aesthetically pleasing facility, located on the site in a highly functional and sensitive nature. It will be the standard demonstrating that even an industrial building type can enhance our environment and our communities.
